2026 SW Championships: 9 – 10th May
It has been another action packed weekend of volleyball, with 30 teams competing across 152 matches in two venues to determine our South West Champions.
In the Women’s division at the end of the cup pool round, five of the 7 teams all had two losses, showing how close the matches had been, with positions 2 to 4 determined on points difference. Plymouth Ladies came out on top in a local derby semi-final against PMVC, whilst Torexe overturned an earlier defeat against Yeovil to earn their place in the final. The first set of the final was very tight with Plymouth Ladies taking the early lead but Torexe fighting back to take the set by a couple of points. In the second set Plymouth were dominant, but a switch round in their line-up for Torexe in the third gave them the advantage again to take the title.
Women’s Cup Final
Torexe beat Plymouth Ladies 25-23, 14-25, 15-7

Men’s Cup Final
In the men’s cup competition it was again very close, with teams waiting for the result of the final pool round to determine who had made it into the play-offs. In the Play-offs Team BU overcame ESVC Lightning and Torexe took a one point victory over Cardiff Panthers to book their places in the semi-finals. Team BU obviously used the play-offs as their warm-up as they beat ESVC Thunder in the first semi-final (after the teams had drawn in an earlier round on Saturday), with Wiltshire Mavericks putting in a strong performance against Torexe.
After several semi-final and final appearances in the last few years, Wiltshire Mavericks finally came got to the top step in a very closely fought and exciting match against Team BU, where both teams stepped up with excellent rallies and only a few points separating the two teams.
Wiltshire Mavericks beat Team BU 25-22, 25-21

With the additional venue and extra teams this year for the first time we introduced a Plate Competition. The bottom six teams for both men and women after the first pool rounds on Saturday went into the Plate competition at Kitto.
Women’s Plate Final
In the women’s competition after a slow start Plymouth University picked up a win in the final pool round, which earnt them a semi-final place. Both semi-finals were close games with RWB Ladies beating Bournemouth Ladies by one point and Plymouth University taking a 3 point win over Bemi Ladies.
In the final RWB continued their unbeaten run on Sunday to take the first Plate title.
Royal Wootten Bassett beat Plymouth University 26-24, 25-14
